Good Afternoon,
Hope you are having a nice Easter long weekend!
Thank you to everyone who have already sent in their personal income tax documents.
With 3 weeks remaining until the tax filing deadline and a possible CRA strike in mid April as announced today, a gentle reminder to prepare your documents to send to us. This will avoid any delays in processing of your notice of assessments, given the possible strike action by CRA workers.
As you are aware, we have several methods of communication available to submit your documents to us or answer any tax related questions. These include contacting us via telephone, e-mail, and video conferencing. If you would like to set up a meeting, please feel free to call the office. I encourage you to send us your documents by April 15th to avoid delays in processing your tax returns before the deadline.
Here are some suggestions for sending us your tax documents:
- You may send us the documents via our ARJ Portal. Please contact clientcare@arjcpa.ca for a link to register for the portal.
- You may send us the documents digitally via any of the following options:
- Dropbox
- Google Drive
- Box
- You may also courier or mail your package to us as many have done in the past.
- You can drop off your documents or setup a meeting to review them and ask any questions.
Note, as per our recent communications, there is an Underused housing Tax (UHT) which is an additional tax filing requirement for this tax season. It’s a filing requirement that applies to corporations, partnerships and trusts who own residential properties as at December 31, 2022 (see memo sent last month for full details to see if you are required to file). If this applies to you, please send us the relevant documents as mentioned in our recent communication.
Affected owners must file a separate UHT return and pay any related UHT by April 30, 2023, for each reportable residential property they owned on December 31, 2022. However, recently, the CRA has announced that it will waive penalties and interest for any late-filed UHT return and for any late-paid UHT, provided the affected owner files any required returns and pays any UHT by October 31, 2023.
